If you sell to the European Union with Global-e (including through Shopify Managed Markets), you may assume your provider already shows the legal guarantee notice and the GARAN label for you. Partly, but not entirely. Global-e's own documentation explains that on Shopify, order confirmation emails are sent by Shopify, not by Global-e, and that the merchant remains responsible for the storefront, the product pages and those emails. Here is what is left to you and how to do it without editing code.

What is left to you when you sell with Global-e on Shopify

  • On the storefront: the harmonised legal guarantee notice, visible before purchase and only to EU/EEA customers.
  • On the product page: the GARAN label on products whose producer gives a durability guarantee of more than two years, in plain view, not hidden behind a click.
  • In the order confirmation email: the notice on every EU/EEA order and, when the order contains GARAN products, the label too.

Global-e publishes a 7-step guide for Shopify with images, metafields and Liquid code. Below are the same 7 steps done with our app LG EU Warranty Notice & GARAN, which has a free plan. For the full legal background, see first our guide to the legal guarantee notice and GARAN label on Shopify.

Global-e's 7 steps, done with the app

  1. Prepare the images and data. By hand, you need the official notice and the labels as PNG files, host them and create a metafield per product. With the app you upload nothing: it includes the official notice in the EU languages and builds the GARAN label from your three details (years, brand and model).
  2. Notice on the storefront, EU/EEA only. Turn on the footer strip (shown on every page) or add the block to the product page from the app's home screen. The notice appears in the customer's language, with their country's period, and only in EU/EEA markets.
  3. GARAN label on the product page. Choose in the app which products carry it and add the "EU durability label" block to the product template. It only shows on those products. Use the full version, not the nested one, because Global-e's guide asks that the label is not hidden behind a click.
  4. Notice in the confirmation email. The app gives you a ready-made snippet: copy it and paste it in Settings › Notifications › Order confirmation › Edit code, at the end and before the footer. It checks the shipping country (or the billing country if there is no shipping) and only shows the notice on orders to the countries on your list, with their period, whether or not the order has GARAN products.
  5. GARAN label in the email. The app does not do this step yet. If you sell GARAN products, follow "Path A" in Global-e's guide (the label as an image in the email, only on EU/EEA orders). If you have no GARAN products, there is nothing to do here.
  6. Test before going live. On the storefront, pick an EU country in the country selector and check the notice and the label; with a non-EU country they do not appear. Then place one test order to an EU address and one outside, and check both emails.
  7. Maintenance. By hand, nothing forces you to fill in the label for each new product. In the app, on the free plan you pick products one by one, with no limit; on the Pro plan you can use rules by collection, vendor, type or tag, so new matching products get it automatically. If you change countries or periods, copy the email snippet again.

Frequently asked questions

Doesn't Global-e already add the notice to its emails?

According to its documentation, yes, in the emails Global-e sends. On Shopify, the order confirmation is sent by Shopify, so that email is up to you. If you are unsure about your setup, ask your Global-e contact.

What if I don't use Global-e?

The steps are the same: storefront, product page and order email. It is all in our general Shopify guide.

Do I have to show the GARAN label on every product?

No. Only on products with a free producer durability guarantee covering the whole item for more than two years. The legal guarantee notice, on the other hand, always applies.
