Your business customers enter their VAT number and the app checks it live in VIES. If the company is in another EU country, it buys without VAT; if it is in your country, it pays VAT as usual. And every order keeps the proof of the check, in case the tax office asks for it.

What if VIES is down?

VIES goes down often. You choose what happens: don't exempt, keep the last valid check for a few days or exempt provisionally. The app retries on its own and re-validates VAT numbers periodically.

FAQ

Do I need Shopify Plus?

No. The VAT number can be entered in the cart or the customer account on any plan. The block inside checkout is only available on Shopify Plus.

Shopify already validates VAT numbers at checkout. What does the app add?

Shopify's validation requires Shopify Tax and charges VAT when VIES doesn't answer. The app keeps the proof of each check on the order, handles VIES outages, re-validates VAT numbers, covers Switzerland and Norway and exports EC Sales List and OSS reports.

What is saved on each order?

The consultation number, date, VAT number, company name, tax treatment (reverse charge or export) and a legal note in the customer's language.

Turn on the block in the cart or the customer account from the theme editor. On Shopify Plus, also in checkout.

3. Sell VAT-free to EU businesses

When the VAT number is valid and from another country, the customer is exempt and the order keeps the proof of the check.
