EU harmonised legal guarantee notice generator

What the harmonised guarantee notice is

Directive (EU) 2024/825 requires, from September 27, 2026, informing consumers about the legal guarantee of conformity with a notice common across the EU. Its design and texts are set by Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960, in all official languages. The idea is that customers recognise the same notice in any store and know they have at least two years of legal guarantee.

How to use the generator

  1. Choose the language of the notice (all 24 official EU languages are available).
  2. Select the countries you sell to. We add the legal period of each one: it is not the same everywhere, Spain, Portugal and Sweden go beyond two years.
  3. If you offer your own commercial guarantee, add the years: it is shown separately, because it does not replace the legal one.
  4. Copy the HTML code or the text, or download the notice image.

Legal guarantee period by country

The European minimum is two years, but each country may extend it. In Spain it is three years for new goods since 2022. In Ireland, the Netherlands and Finland there is no fixed period: it depends on the useful life that can be expected of the product. The generator table links to the law and the official source for each country.

Where to place the notice in your store

The notice must be visible before purchase, normally on the product page, near the price, and it is advisable to repeat it in the order confirmation and in the terms of sale. If you sell to several countries, each customer should see the period for their own country.

Make it automatic on Shopify

Copying the notice by hand onto every product page gets you by, but it does not adapt the period to each customer. Our app EU legal guarantee notice and GARAN label shows it only to EU customers, in their language and with their country's period, on the product page, the cart and the confirmation email.

Frequently asked questions

Is it mandatory if I only sell in my own country?

Yes: the obligation applies to all sales to consumers in the EU, including domestic ones.

What is the commercial guarantee label (GARAN)?

The same Regulation creates a label for producers who give a commercial durability guarantee of more than two years. It is voluntary and offered by the producer, not the store.

Are the texts official?

The notice texts are those of Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960. We took each country's periods from national legislation and link the source; check them with your adviser if in doubt. This tool is not affiliated with the European Commission.
